Day 1 is going to be your arrival day in Nepal. Or, if you are already in Nepal, we begin our tour by exploring the glorious Kathmandu city. We will explore the renowned spots and chill around on the first day of our trip. You can also start prepping for the upcoming trek.
A new and adventurous day awaits upon waking on day 2. After devouring the breakfast, we drive from Kathmandu to Beni. This long drive to Beni will be a beautiful experience as you pass by astounding landscapes, forests, and appealing natural views. We spend the night here at Beni.
Waking up the next day, we officially start our trek. We pass the Myagdi Khola and cross numerous appealing villages and tall suspension bridges. You will witness the beautiful terrace farming. Before we wrap the day, we explore Babiya Chaur. We spend the night here at Babiya Chaur.
On day 4, the adventure starts getting tougher. We leave the terrace field behind and pass through a rugged trail. Up until we witness small villages, the path is rocky and difficult. After walking for about 5-6 hours, we reach Dharapani. An appealing village where we spend the night.
Waking up early, we start our trek from Dharapani. We cross numerous villages till we reach Muri. The ascending trail entails a lush forest, enthralling rivers, and other small villages, and finally, you reach Muri after about 6-7 hours. We spend the night here at Muri.
On day 6, we will cross a low pass from where we get astounding views of Mt. Ghustung South. From here, the trail also gets difficult, passing through pine and oak forests. This trail leads to Boghara. From Boghara, you will witness the glorious views of the majestic mountains, including; Dhaulagiri I and Gurja Himal, along with the beautiful terrace fields lying under the mountain view.
The real adventure starts here as we elevate from Boghara. We will pass the tree lines, farms, and terraced fields on the trail. Then we eventually reach Dovan, where we will spend the night.
We begin the trip from Dovan to the Italian Base camp. The series of enthralling natural views continue as we move further. The resting spot for the day will be the Italian Base camp. We will walk for about 6 hours to reach the Italian Base Camp from Dovan.
The exciting journey continues as we leave the Italian Base camp and move further toward the French Base camp. This journey will be of about 6-7 hours. Be sure to take enough rests and listen to your body whilst trekking. You will enjoy the glorious natural views on your way to the French Base camp.
The walk gets tougher and more adventurous as we leave the french base camp and lead towards Dhaulagiri Base Camp. The distinct ethnic culture and habitat of people residing here will add a new dimension to your adventure.
From Dhaulagiri Base Camp, we trek to Yak Kharka/ Aaru Bari. This journey should take you about 6- 7 hours. The trail gets easier as we leave the glaciers above the Dhaulagiri Base camp. You will witness the grand mountain views of Mukut Himal, Tashi Kang, and Sita Chuchura. We finally conclude the day at Aaru Bari.
On day 12, we will be trekking from Aaru Bari to Jomsom. We continue the journey through the beautiful Marpha Village, renowned for its apple orchard, apple brandy, and other products. We continue the journey.
Day 13 is almost the end of our awesome trekking journey. We take a flight back to Pokhara from Jomsom. You are bound to be taken aback by the awe-inspiring mountain views, the distinct landscapes, and the clear blue skies during the flight back to Pokhara.
Day 14 will be the last day of the trek. On this day, we return to Kathmandu from Pokhara by tourist bus. You will enjoy the serene natural views on the way back. The 6 to 7 hours bus journey will be perfect for reflecting on the amazing trip.
As we discussed earlier, Nepal’s Dhaulagiri trail is a relatively difficult trekking trail. Let’s discuss the possible difficulties you might encounter during the trip.
The most common issue and the possible difficulty you might encounter on your trek to Dhaulagiri is Altitude sickness or Acute Mountain sickness(AMS). You can get altitude sickness if you travel to a high altitude quickly. So be sure to listen to your body and pace accordingly. Refrain from pushing yourself too much, or your health condition might get more serious.
The Dhaulagiri trek is a relatively difficult trek in Nepal. You have to pass through the rugged, elevated paths. It is a high-altitude trek. So it is not suitable for beginner trekkers.
Frosty weather conditions add to the difficulty of the already challenging Dhaulagiri trek. This is a high-altitude trek, and as we know, the weather conditions at high altitudes are unpredictable.
The Dhaulagiri trek is considered one of Nepal’s most difficult trekking experiences. So it is best suited for people with prior trekking experience and good physical fitness. If you have critical health conditions, avoiding this trek is best.
You can do the Dhaulagiri trekking throughout the year. However, the most preferred times have to be either spring or autumn. These seasons provide the most conducive environment for trekking in Nepal. Pleasant temperatures, clear blue skies, astounding mountain views, free from numerous insects, bugs, and many more pros of trekking during spring and autumn.
You can trek to the Dhaulagiri region in the winter as well. However, traveling during winter comes with challenges like unforeseen weather conditions, slippery trails, and frosty climates. The pros of trekking during winter are easily available accommodations as this time is considered off-season.
If you plan to trek to the Dhaulagiri region during summer, you must remember that monsoon and summer occur simultaneously in Nepal. With prior management, you can also trek to the Dhaulagiri region in Summer. You must be prepared to face uncertain climates, slippery trails, bugs, leeches, and other monsoon struggles. You might face these challenges when it’s raining; however, on most days, you will witness clear blue skies and warm and favorable weather conditions.
